We’re Hiring: GIS/Field Technician
The Rainwater Basin Joint Venture (RWBJV, rwbjv.org) is looking for an entry-level contractor interested in gaining on-the-job GIS skills and field experience. This will be a full-time, 40 hr/week position located at the RWBJV Science Office in Grand Island, NE. Contractors will gain proficiency in ArcGIS, python scripting geoprocessing workflows with ArcGIS Pro, eCognition/Definiens Developer, and Google Earth Engine. The contractor will also act as the crew leader for a waterfowl survey project from January through May, supervising up to 4 other technicians.
Job duties include:
- (60%) processing spatial data using ArcGIS, including developing a coarse landcover/wetland classification for the Rainwater Basin, Central Loess Hills, and Republican River regions of Nebraska. The landcovers will then be used to inform conservation of bird habitats through geospatial analysis.
- (20%) assisting in daily operations of the GIS lab, including writing reports and summaries, entering data, creating maps and tables, communicating with project investigators, presenting project results, maintaining file organization, and developing metadata.
- (20%) assisting with field work. This may include aerial and ground-based bird surveys, equipment maintenance, and monitoring native vegetation.
Qualifications: Experience with ArcGIS and/or any of the above software is preferred but not required.
